CCF AND DofE
CCF
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) aims to enable the development of personal responsibility, leadership and self-discipline. The CCF is an educational partnership between the school and the Ministry of Defence and our CCF includes the Army and Royal Air Force sections.
CCF is open to members of the Third and Fourth Form as a Co-curricular club on a Friday after school, before you are given the opportunity to join the full CCF for the Sixth Form during Friday afternoon timetabled activities.
Participating in CCF develops leadership skills, teamwork, self-reliance and a sense of service; for some, it will introduce you to a career in the military and to learning the military syllabus.
Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE)
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award aims to provide an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development for young people.
The Award is offered at two levels, Silver and Gold. Silver is completed across Fourth and Fifth Form, and Gold completed across Lower and Upper Sixth Form. Each level consists of four sections: Volunteering, Skills, Physical and Expeditions. At Gold level there is an additional requirement, the Residential Section. The Award is achieved through the successful completion of each section.
Sessions run on Fridays after school for the Fifth Form to provide training for the Silver Award Expedition section. There is training on Wednesdays after school for Lower Sixth Form Gold participants and a compulsory weekend of training in October for new Sixth Form pupils and direct entrants to the Gold Award. In the Lower Sixth Form, pupils who join the scheme can work towards the Gold level Volunteering or Skill sections while taking part in their regular Friday afternoon activities. Participants work towards the other sections in their own time.
The expeditions for both Silver and Gold levels take place during the Easter Holidays and at the end of the Summer Term.
