ECONOMICS AND MATHS
The Harry Schofield Mathematical Society
The School’s Mathematical Society promotes a series of termly lectures from all walks of life.
Economics Journal
The Economics Journal is a publication of economics articles submitted by pupils and teachers under the leadership of a Pupil Editor, elected annually, who works with the Teacher Editor. The theme of each publication is decided on an issue-by-issue basis by the Pupil Editor who also commissions the content writers and edits the articles.
Economics Society
The Economics Society is for Fifth and Sixth Form and all Economics students (and non-Economics students with an interest in the subject) are invited. The Society provides a platform to those who are keen to explore aspects of Economics which go well beyond the A Level syllabus, wish to share knowledge they discover with others, and who are ready to have their views challenged by the audience. Some past student talks have included: ‘In Support of Pluralism in Economics’, ‘The Story of India: From Socialism to Superpower’, ‘The Case For Austerity’, and ‘It Is Time For Communism in Britain’.
Investment Club
At Investment Club, we aim to learn the basics of investment by developing skills such as analysing stock markets and building share portfolios through participation in the Investopedia Share Simulation Trading Game. We meet fortnightly and also learn about other types of investments, such as cryptocurrencies and tracker funds, among others. Anyone can join, making it an inclusive environment for all who are keen to understand investment.
Mathsplus
This club is an opportunity to try some weird and wonderful mathematical problems designed to push you beyond the A Level curriculum. Feel free to bring your lunch along! Open to Sixth Form Maths pupils only.
Maths Club
Do you enjoy solving maths-related puzzles? Have you enjoyed taking a UKMT Challenge before? Do you like talking about maths you have come across outside lessons? If any of these questions sounds like you, come and try out Maths Club. Open to all year groups.
