Welcome to the Summer edition of our alumni newsletter.
We’re delighted to share this new format with you. Designed using Turtl©—a platform co-founded by Old Albanian Nick Mason (OA 2003) and his business partner Mark Sallows—this refreshed edition marks a step forward in how we stay connected with our wider community. I hope you find it engaging, enjoyable, and easy to explore.
As I approach the end of my first academic year as Headmaster, what has struck me most is the strength of the St Albans spirit and the warmth with which I’ve been welcomed—by pupils, parents, staff, and, very especially, by the OA community.
It is clear to me that the School’s remarkable legacy lives on not just in its buildings or traditions, but in the lasting affection so many of you continue to hold for it. This year, I’ve had the privilege of meeting alumni from every decade since the 1950s. In each encounter, I’ve seen the same pride, curiosity, and generosity that characterise this School at its best.
There is something enduring about the connection between St Albans and its former pupils—something well worth celebrating and strengthening. That is why one of my priorities is to develop our alumni programme in a way that fosters more meaningful engagement, across generations and around the world.
Thank you for reading—and if you haven’t been in touch for a while, I warmly encourage you to do so. Whether to share your news, offer support, or simply reconnect, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
Joe Silvester
