Symphonie Fantastique

Sixth Form musicians enjoyed a varied programme, including the Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique, courtesy of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday 10 May. Having looked at their 2023-2024 programme, we look forward to returning next term!

Natural History Museum

On 14 May we took six Lower Sixth Form Biologists to the Natural History Museum where they had a behind the scenes tour of the Coleoptera collection from the lead curator Dr Max Barclay. This was the followed up by the spirit tour where they viewed animals preserved in Spirit including a giant squid and some of Charles Darwin’s collection.

The Sleeping Beauty

Third and Fourth Form boys experienced a lovely evening in Covent Garden where they saw a sumptuous production of Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty performed by The Royal Ballet in the Royal Opera House.

Going to the Royal Opera House to see Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty, was an incredible experience! Despite this being my first ballet, I was deeply engaged in the story thanks to the excellent performance of the dancers, conveying the story very well. My favourite scene, apart from the classic Rose Adagio, was the arrival of Carabosse, where using elaborate costumes and grim music a dark atmosphere was created.In the interval we even had an opportunity to go to the terrace, from which we could view the busy city skyline, and to buy ice cream. As the curtains rose for the final time, we were able to view the grand and Royal Wedding of Princess Aurora, with guests Puss in Boots and Little Red Riding Hood in attendance! Overall, the trip was an excellent opportunity for us, and I look forward to returning to the Royal Opera House again.
