The Art Department at St Albans School is truly state-of-the-art, displaying an impressive range of facilities that enable students to produce exceptional work. The Department boasts extensive printmaking facilities, including print presses and screen printing – allowing students to experiment with various printmaking techniques and develop their skills. The Department also provides a vast collection of cameras, enabling students to display and improve their eye for composition. Moreover, students can work with endless mediums, including vibrant oil-based inks and paints, which further enhance their creative endeavours.
Our dedicated and passionate teachers, Ms Lerche-Lerchenborg and Mrs Forbes-Whitehead are committed to providing students with a thorough education in the arts. They understand that art is not just about creating works, but also about learning from and engaging with the wider artistic community. Hence, the several visits to some of the most prestigious galleries in the UK: the Tate Galleries and the National Galleries. These trips are used to inspire and educate students who are preparing for their GCSEs and A Level Examinations. Through exposure to a wide range of styles and interpretations, students are able to gain a deeper understanding of the art world. These visits are just one example of the ways in which Ms Lerche-Lerchenborg and Mrs Forbes-Whitehead go above and beyond to provide their students with a comprehensive art education.
At St Albans School, the art journey begins in First Form, where students are introduced to a wide range of creative mediums and techniques. The Art Department offers students the opportunity to access pottery and lino printing amongst other mediums. These opportunities initiate their creative spirits and encourage experimentation. By starting at a young age, students are able to build a strong foundation of artistic skills and knowledge, which they can then build upon as they progress through the school.
