80 Third Form pupils spent their enrichment week at a PGL centre overlooking the sea in Dorset. They were very fortunate to have glorious weather throughout the week, which meant that they could enjoy the many outdoor activities and the far-reaching sea views.
The boys got to take part in a wide range of activities from adrenaline-fuelled challenges like the giant swing and the zip wire, to learning new skills of axe-throwing and archery. One of the highlights was the trapeze, that required you to climb a tall tower and leap from the platform, many metres above the ground. The students encouraged one another to put their fears aside and even persuaded some of the teachers to step out of their comfort zone!
One of the most difficult activities to master was street-surfing, a type of skateboarding. The students worked in pairs, initially trying to balance and then learning how to propel the board. By the end of the session a few of the students and Miss Brunetti were whizzing round the hall.
There was also trip to Weymouth harbour, where teamwork was put to the test through raft-building. The boys had to use poles, rope and barrels to build a raft that could support all 12 of their team. Every group successfully produced a sea-worthy vessel but the games that were played in the water meant that no-one managed to stay dry!
In the evenings, there were large group games like capture the flag and three-ball rounders to keep everyone entertained and the final evening was spent on the beach, just a short walk down from the centre.
Thank you to Mrs Penfold, Mr Daurge, Miss Brunetti, Mr Cope, Mrs Godfrey, Ms Griffiths, Mrs Gudgin, Mr Odgers and Mr Siery for giving up their time and making it a great trip.
