EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES

On 26 September 2023, pupils and staff celebrated European Day of Languages with a language carousel House competition in the Library. It was a great opportunity for pupils to learn a few new words or phrases and a chance for volunteering staff and pupils to share their linguistic diversity and knowledge.

A record number of 107 pupils took part and the top pupil this year was Fourth Former Nathan with 19 languages - he needed a second passport! Thank you to all the volunteers and participants for making the afternoon so successful.

This event celebrated the diversity of languages across the world. Students and staff who speak different languages had the opportunity to teach basic phrases, numbers, and interesting facts about their language to students. It was inspiring to see so many languages (around 25!) being taught which ranged from Chichewa and Arabic to Korean and Zulu. I have had the opportunity to teach Arabic for the last two years and it has been really enjoyable. The enthusiasm to learn new things about a language displayed by the pupils and staff is what drives me to come back each year.
