RUGBY WEEK

This year, the Sport Department launched ‘Rugby Week,’ a new initiative in the rugby programme. From Tuesday 26- Friday 29 September, rugby matches were played at Woollams every evening for nearly every team in the School. Opponents included: Watford Grammar School for Boys; Parmiter's School; and St Edmund’s College.

The aim of the week is to showcase St Albans School rugby whilst creating some fantastic memories for the pupils involved. It was a new and exciting experience for all players and we demonstrated a high level of rugby across all age groups. We are proud of the hard work that the pupils put in to achieve this standard. Participation levels from all involved were exceptional, exemplifying the students’ enthusiasm towards rugby.

Being able to have all year groups playing at the same time created an immense atmosphere, like that of a 1st XV game. Looking across the pitches and seeing the talent on show throughout the year groups made me incredibly proud to be a St Albans School rugby player.

Barney - Upper Sixth Form

What was most enjoyable about Rugby Week was the atmosphere created through all the teachers coming to watch, the parents and the Sixth Formers that came along to our match to cheer us on. Despite the U16 game not being the most competitive it was a great experience.

Avi - Fifth Form

Strong opposition brought out the best in us. We played as a cohesive team with real spirit. Our training moves clicked together as we produced an outstanding performance.

Henry - Second Form

Rugby Week worked out well because it was a great way to get more parents to support us and for us to play in a new environment under the lights. It was a good start to our National Vase tournament campaign, especially with a big score line in our favour.
