On Wednesday 8 November, philosophy professor Dr Stephen Law from Oxford University attended the School to talk to the entire Third Form about the puzzle of personal identity through time and artificial intelligence (AI). Firstly, they considered what makes a person the same continuously existing being through time. Secondly, they wondered whether AI could ever have real intelligence through considering the thought experiments of the Chinese Room and the Turing Test. The pupils asked excellent questions which drew on their prior learning in lots of subject areas, and Dr Law was impressed with their understanding and engagement.
