INTERFAITH WEEK

On Monday 6 November parents, pupils and staff joined us for a wonderful evening of poetry and song: the Abbey’s annual Interfaith Event! This year’s theme was ‘Strangers and Co-pilgrims’ and pupils performed a moving rendition of ‘You Will Be Found’ from the musical Dear Evan Hansen, and a spoken-word poem – Strangers are Strange – by our very own Dr Gray, Head of PSHEE. The pieces explored finding hope in friendship and understanding our differences in the light of shared aims of peace, justice, and love.

In the interfaith discussion of AI & Religion, Rabbi Hughes and Dr Gray discussed how our treatment of AI will likely influence our treatment of humans, and to what extent AI can replace the pastoral duties of religious leaders. Dr Gray also noted AI's tendency to mimic and perpetuate harmful biases based on data it has gathered from the internet. The session concluded by audience members talking to AI Jesus, Buddha and Guru Nanak, prompting further ethical questions. It was an interesting and thought-provoking evening.
