SPANISH AND SURFING TRIP TO GALICIA

31 Fourth and Fifth Formers enjoyed a week of full Spanish immersion in beautiful Galicia, northwest Spain. Our pupils enjoyed 12 hours of Spanish lessons in small groups and three afternoons of surfing in the Atlantic. Half the week was spent in the vibrant coastal city of La Coruna where activities included a blend of sporting, cultural and linguistic opportunities, such as basketball and handball, visits to the planetarium, aquarium and science museum. The second half of the week was spent in the traditional fishing village of Corrubedo, overlooked by a stunning national park, beautiful beaches and perfect waves for surfers.

By the end of the trip, all pupils were able to stand on the surfboard and catch a wave, as well as having enjoyed a timely boost to their Spanish skills.

My favourite part of the Galicia trip was the food! The patatas bravas, the jamón and even the churros were definitely the best dishes as they were so authentic and flavourful.

Surfing in the torrential hail with a double rainbow in the background is something I never thought I’d do, but now I have – a moment I will never forget.

Pupils experienced their Spanish lessons in situ at the market in La Plaza de Lugo, interacting with the stall holders to learn about their fresh produce.

The Galicia trip was an amazing experience to not only improve our Spanish but also to learn about Galician culture. Additionally, we learned many new skills, such as surfing, which everyone enjoyed a lot.

My favourite part about the trip to Spain was meeting the people there. They were so kind, and it was great for gaining confidence when speaking Spanish. They also always smiled at us when walking around the town. Some even asked about our School and where we were from in England. It was lovely to speak to them.

The trip to Galicia was really fun. The best part of the trip was definitely the surfing and experiencing the culture in Spain. My Spanish speaking improved as well. Overall, I enjoyed the trip for sure.
