THE GREAT FRENCH BAKE-OFF

As the Second Form enjoyed an after-school French Bake Off competition, the question on everyone’s lips was: Qui sera le prochain Grand Patissier? (Who will be the next Star Baker?).

The eleven teams were tasked with the technical challenge of making chocolate filled Galettes des Rois (cakes of the kings) which were then judged by our esteemed chefs Pierre and Dave.

Each galette also concealed a small fève in the form of a porcelain charm, a tradition which sees those who find it crowned Kings for the evening. In this famously republican country, the ‘kings’ do not represent bygone monarchs, but rather the three kings of the nativity as Galettes des Rois are traditionally baked on Epiphany.

A big congratulations to Team 10 who were crowned winners, sealing their victory with the much sought-after poignée de main (handshake) and a recipe book each!
