RECENT TEAM SPORTS
Lacrosse
The lacrosse team have been busy this term with several fixtures.
In their first match against St Albans High School the team demonstrated excellent work ethic and attitude. As the match progressed their confidence grew allowing for more settled play and an ability to hold onto the ball for longer.
The following weekend they faced Stowe at home. Building upon their performance from the previous match the team increasingly dominated in attack which resulted in a well-deserved 8-2 victory.
Next was Abbot's Hill Invitational Tournament. This was a challenging prospect for our small squad but the team executed a high level of skill both individually and collectively. They posted excellent results, losing narrowly to St George’s 1st X 2-1 and drawing against Walthamstow Hall 1-1.
Finally they hosted Haileybury at home. A hard-fought game from the first whistle, seeing Haileybury score several goals within the first few minutes. The team reacted well, narrowing the scoreline as the game progressed.

Hockey
The 1st XI has made a positive start to the season with wins recorded so far against Harrow School (5-2), Bishop’s Stortford College (3-1: a hat-trick from Dylan), Windsor Boys (7-0 including a brace of goals from Ben) and a very tight game against Felsted (2-1, goals from Dylan and James). Unfortunately in the match against Merchant Taylors’ they came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 score line but certainly had enough chances to win that game: Kaylan was the standout performer for his excellent performance in goal.
Well done to the Under-16s who qualified for the regional round of the national competition from the county stage on 25 January. The Under-14s didn’t fare as well in their county tournament, losing the semi-final on a shoot-out having dominated in the game but failed to score goals to win it.
The Under-12 and Under-13 teams have been hampered by cold weather in getting their seasons underway, but in recent weeks both have played matches and a tournament to speed up their learning and skill development in game contexts.
The Under-14 and Under-15 teams have performed strongly in school fixtures with great numbers playing and training. The impressive aspect has been seeing the flourishing of individual skills and collective strategic understanding.
We hope that the second half of Term will continue to see such great progress and performances from the hockey teams across the age groups.
