To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, the School invited Michelle Richman to tell the moving story of her father Zigi who was imprisoned as a teenager in Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. The whole School was silent as Michelle spoke of the violence and dehumanisation her father endured and witnessed at the hands of the Nazis, and of the death of his family members under Germany’s fascist regime. Zigi was determined to share his story in the hope of confronting racism and hatred in all its forms, including the persecution of other marginalised groups during the Holocaust.
At the end of the assembly, our pupils lit candles in memory of further victims of genocides around the world. Together, we commemorated those murdered in Bosnia, Cambodia, Darfur, and in Rwanda.
