To celebrate European Day of Languages, pupils participated in language ‘speed dating’ at the School Library. It was a great success and a wonderful opportunity to learn a few words or phrases from a wealth of different languages and a chance for volunteering staff and pupils to share their linguistic diversity and knowledge.
We had a strong variety of languages represented from Afrikaans to Zulu via a diverse range of languages such as Arabic, Chichewa, Gujarati, Hindi and Ukrainian. After each session, volunteers signed the European Day of Languages Passports of pupils to receive points for their respective Houses. In total there were almost four hundred interactions between pupils and staff speaking in a foreign language. The number of interactions was totalled up for the House Competition and the results were as follows:
- Hawking
- Renfrew
- Hampson
- Marsh
Thank you to everyone who joined and helped to make the afternoon so successful!
