Last week, Upper Sixth Geographers went on a field trip to Exmoor in Devon. It was particularly exciting for some of us as we hadn’t been on a field trip before due to Covid. We spent three days at Nettlecombe Court Field Centre, a country mansion which is on the edge of Exmoor National Park.
We were looking at rural decline, sand dune processes and management, and coastal management. It was interesting to see coastal erosion occurring on the beach and the strategies employed to manage this – such as rock armour groynes, revetments and sea walls.
The only downside was the lack of Wi-Fi, but it was funny in the evenings to see everyone congregating on the top of the local hill in search of mobile reception. Despite the rain, it was a beautiful area of beach, forest and ancient woodlands and I’d like to thank the teachers for organising this trip.
