RECENT RUGBY TOURNAMENTS
The U15 National Vase Competition
U15 rugby team played The Judd School on Thursday 8 February in the Quarter Final of the National Vase competition and won 20-6. This took them into the National Semi Final which was played against Beechen Cliff School from Bath at Aylesbury Rugby Club. By all accounts this was a cracking game of rugby with the lead changing hands repeatedly throughout the game: our team gave everything but against very strong opponents our team ultimate came up 3 points short, the final score being 26-29. Severe disappointment of course was the overwhelming feeling, but an immense amount of pride and an incredible memory for all those involved can be taken from the day and the preceding run to the Semi Final!

Rosslyn Park National Sevens
The U18 1st VII had a very successful campaign at the 2024 Rosslyn Park 7s tournament. On the first day they recorded wins in their group against all opposition sides including St Andrew’s Catholic School, Neath Port Talbot College and Malmesbury School. Having won their group, they progressed to a knock-out fixture against Sherborne School to decide whether they would return the next day. In a tightly fought game, St Albans School came out on top thanks to some excellent decision making from Tayo scoring on the blind side and a monumental team effort battling both physical and mental fatigue to take victory in the final moments.
On the second day of the tournament, they faced a new group with tough opponents of City of London Freemen’s, Marlborough College and Lancaster Royal Grammar School. The fixture against Marlborough College was a particular highlight. It was a hard-fought and well-deserved victory, displaying the fantastic intensity the boys committed to their defence throughout the tournament, and strong performances across in the other games meant that St Albans School progressed into the quarter finals of the national competition. Unfortunately, at this stage, the pupils faced a strong Stamford outfit, and despite their best efforts, they came out second best and were knocked out at this stage.
This year’s team has progressed further than any previous St Albans School 7s squad, reaching the final eight schools in a tournament of 224 teams. Fantastic performances were had by all members of the team, but particular highlights came from Jack's speed on the wing scoring a number of excellent tries, Asa's passing and game management, and the player of the tournament was the team captain Cameron.
