TRIPS ABROAD
Munich, Germany
In Half Term, the U15 and Senior Football Squads flew to Munich to train at Bayern Munich’s 1st XI and Academy training facilities. After a very early start the players were given their Bayern Munich training kit for the week and enjoyed training at the same venue as Harry Kane and the rest of the Bayern squad. Whilst on tour the players also enjoyed a swimming session in the Olympic Pool, a trip up the 291 metre Olympic Tower and a visit to the BMW museum.
Usingen, Germany
17 pupils embarked on a week-long German Exchange in which they stayed with host families and went to school with their German peers to experience everyday life.
The school day started early at 7.55, but also ended relatively early, at 13.00, and there was no requirement to wear a school uniform. Boys reported that generally lessons were a lot more relaxed than we are used to here at St Albans School!
I really enjoyed the trip because it made me more comfortable speaking German and I made lots of fun memories: “Ein tolles Erlebnis!”
On the final day there was a guided tour of the Eintracht Frankfurt Stadium and Museum which gave fascinating behind-the-scenes insights into the home of one of Germany’s premier league teams.
Our pupils became increasingly more willing and confident to use German as a tool of communication and they embraced unknown experiences with much resilience and enthusiasm. They were a real credit to themselves, their families, and St Albans School. Grateful thanks to Frau Renz and Herr Squibb for making this trip possible.
La Loire Valley, France
This Third and Fourth Form trip was packed with activities and included a competition for the best trip journal written in French. On the first day, the pupils spent a full day in the Futuroscope, a science theme park where they enjoyed the rides and watched movies in French in 4D in the IMAX cinema.
The following day was spent visiting the iconic castle of Chenonceau built on the Cher river and the boys learnt about chocolate making in the famous patisserie Bigot in Amboise. They also visited the famous Aquarium de Touraine. The final day saw the boys visiting the well-known museum of traditional macarons in Montmorillon. The staff at the hotel, the restaurant, the patisserie and the museum along with the coach drivers were very complimentary and impressed by the behaviour and level of maturity and respect shown by our boys. Thank you to Mme Coudert and her colleagues for organising and leading the trip.
