CELEBRATING SHAKESPEARE
The English Department celebrated Shakespeare's birthday with a series of lectures on his plays, focusing on his portrayal of women. Dr Davies delivered a talk on The Taming of the Shrew, Sixth Form pupils Jonathan and Emma spoke thought-provokingly about Othello, Antony and Cleopatra, and King Lear, and UCL's Professor Helen Hackett discussed the significance of dreams and the imagination in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet.
Attended by many pupils and their parents, it was a fantastic evening full of stimulating discussions about Shakespeare's works. Dr Hacksley and Dr Davies would like to thank Emma, Jonathan, and Professor Helen Hackett for their excellent presentations.
