THEATRE TRIPS
Last term our main topic was The Women in Black; we spent lots of time and effort going through the book and studying the gothic terms in preparation for our end of year test. So, to congratulate our hard work, the teachers of the English Department booked a trip for the whole year to go and watch a live production of it in the theatre!
The theatre was packed with other keen and excited pupils ready for the play. Once it started a great hush swept through the theatre along with the actors who stepped upon the stage.
It was an excellent play with loud screams across the audience from the jump scares prompted by the Women in Black's sudden appearances, which even gave me a few jumps back into my seat.

The play told the same story as the book but from a different perspective, using a framing device of the protagonist asking a theatre director to stage his supernatural story as a means of catharsis, freeing him from his secret, unspeakable past experience by sharing it openly with an audience.
This creative dramatisation of Susan Hill’s novel could help us in the near future by giving us more ideas and a bigger picture when it comes to our end of year tests. It was a fun experience and I'm sure everyone in the Second Form is thankful to all the teachers who put in their time and effort.
