PERFORMANCE OF ZERO
On Thursday 9 May pupils and staff experienced a script read performance of Zero, a play written by Emmanuel (Lower Sixth Form) as part of his EPQ project. Zero follows Scarlett, a teenager with schizophrenia, and shows how her encroaching psychosis blurs the line between fiction and reality to fatal effect.
The fantastic acting, and mounting tension of the ticking timebomb sound effects and spiralling inner monologues, made for a tense and thought-provoking production which takes a step towards diminishing the stigma surrounding schizophrenia.
Preparing for the role of Scarlett was challenging, especially in distinguishing the different delusions of someone who suffers with schizophrenia to the audience and then snapping back into reality where she was made to feel like an outsider.
