OXFORD OPPORTUNITIES TRIP
Twelve Fourth Form pupils enjoyed a busy day in Oxford, starting with a guided tour of St Anne’s College by Classics student Shiv.
They then experienced an artefact handling workshop at the Pitt Rivers Museum, learning about topics such as colonialism, cultural assimilation and making indigenous cultural practices illegal. The repatriation of artefacts was also discussed.
Pupils also had a tour of the Bodleian Library, including Duke Humfrey’s library with chained books (which was used as the restricted section of Hogwarts library in the Harry Potter films), and the Divinity School.
I really enjoyed seeing the architecture, and it was interesting to see what people of that time were capable of, both in building terms and their educational system.
I absolutely loved the tour around the Bodleian Library and all the history that surrounds Oxford. I still find it incredible to believe the library has access to every single published book in English in only 12 hours!
