PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
On Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 June, Lower Sixth pupils took part in the School’s annual Higher Education Conference. Pupils not only registered on the UCAS system and began completing their application, but also received excellent guidance from Elizabeth Geaney (Bath University) on how to write their personal statements, with further support provided in supplementary sessions by tutors.
Other sessions included: how to prepare for admissions hurdles as well as presentations on how to approach Oxbridge and overseas university applications, whilst those hoping to study Medicine had the opportunity to complete a full UCAT paper under timed conditions. All pupils also attended a panel discussion exploring tips on ‘Surviving University’, where current OA undergraduates: Livy Naylor, Josh Thompson, Robert Heaney and Emily Moring joined Lizzie Geaney to discuss their experiences of university and answer questions from the audience.
Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 July sees the commencement of the next stage of the Conference where the main focus will shift from guidance on university applications to assisting students to think further about future careers and the transferable skills needed to for success in the job market.
