SILVER AND GOLD DofE QUALIFYING EXPEDITIONS
Two Gold groups completed their qualifying expedition in Peak District National Park. One group investigated the aviation history and crash sites associated with the area, while the other group investigated footpath erosion in relation to tourist hotspots. They completed a physically challenging route which saw the groups passing over Saddleworth Moor, The Dark Peak of Kinder Scout and traversing the Ladybower Reservoir. Having expeditioned in the short window of British summertime, high UV and heat provided a challenge throughout the day on routes with little shade. Thankfully, Mr Spencer was on hand with some after sun to save the day. Despite these struggles, all participants maintained a positive outlook and represented the school in a great light. Both groups successfully completed their four-day expedition.

I enjoyed the sense of accomplishment at the end of each day and being able to relax and play some cards while watching the sunset. One of the most memorable moments was finding the gloster meteos avaiation crash site after using the groups precise navigation skills.
The weather was less summery than expected for July but our Silver DofE groups powered on through their qualifying expeditions, spending 4 days walking and 3 nights camping in the Peak District.
