BESTSELLING AUTHOR VISITS LOWER SCHOOL

We had the pleasure of welcoming New York Times bestselling author Taran Matharu who captivated our Lower School pupils with insights into his fantasy novels, writing process, and how he got published.

Pupils were particularly eager to learn of all the places he had visited on book tours, and his writing tips and advice for getting started on their own stories. In the Q&A session pupils asked lots of questions, including how he names his characters to how best to start a story.

Some of his advice included:

Always make a start - Tell yourself that you're only going to write a few sentences rather than skipping a day.
Try and finish mid sentence and mid chapter - This lets you easily pick up where you left off the next day.
Keep it fun! - Don't be afraid to rethink your plot; if you are bored, chances are your reader will be too.
