House Maths Competition

Last week, teams of pupils worked collaboratively to solve cross-number puzzles. Success depended not just on mathematical skills, but on pupils' ability to remain calm under pressure and maximise points within a tight timescale. The Houses were closely matched, but Hampson secured first place with wins in the Third Form, Lower Sixth Form, and Upper Sixth Form competitions. Hawking, victorious in the Fourth Form, claimed second, while Renfrew, the Lower School champion, took third place and Marsh finished in fourth place.

Chess Tournament

It was a pleasure to host three local schools - Beaumont School, Dame Alice Owens' School and Watford Future Academies - for a 15-board chess tournament in our beautiful Corfield Building.

This was our strongest result yet against our perennial rivals of Beaumont School and Dame Alice Owen's School, earning a spot in the next round of the National Schools U18 Chess Competition! It was an enjoyable event for seasoned players and newcomers alike; best of all, there are clear take-aways that can help us perform even better in future events.

Senior Maths Challenge

In October, a record 241 students from the Fifth and Sixth Forms participated in the Senior Maths Challenge. Pupils performed exceptionally well, scoring a total of 84 Bronze certificates, 42 Silver Certificates and 28 Gold certificates. Particular congratulations go to participants who are in the Fifth Form as they sat this challenge a year early!
