I am in the Lower Sixth Form and studying Maths for A Level. Maths is compulsory at GCSE, and one of the most popular subjects at A Level at St Albans School. Pupils at the School benefit from highly skilled and experienced teachers. In my experience, teachers at the School push Maths students to achieve high grades in GCSE and A Level, and make lessons interesting and enjoyable, helping students to become more enthusiastic about the subject. Also, the School’s Corfield Building provides modern classrooms and useful resources.
In addition, pupils take their IGCSE examinations in Mathematics in January, earlier than their other exams in the summer of the same year. This is really helpful, allowing us to focus on our revision over the Christmas break and giving us the time we need to ensure that we get good grades.
Various co-curricular activities and clubs at St Albans School allow enthusiastic pupils to explore the subject further. Mathsplus gives an opportunity to work on mathematical problems designed to push A Level Mathematicians, Maths Club lets students try puzzles related to maths and talk about topics of maths not covered in lessons, Third Form STEM club allows students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths to spend time on practical projects related to these subjects, and Physicsbeyond offers weekly meetings to discuss topics in Maths and Physics going beyond the A Level syllabus.
Clinics are also run frequently to support pupils and give them an opportunity to be helped by teachers in topics that they are struggling with.
Overall, Maths at St Albans School is great subject to learn, with students throughout the School achieving high results in their exams, enjoying the subject, and gaining an interest in it which they can continue to develop through the range of co-curricular activities offered.
