BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Alice (Lower Sixth Form) won the prestigious Historical Association's Young Historian competition with her outstanding essay. Her research has since been published in The Historian magazine, where she delves into the fascinating history of Verulamium, the Roman town that once stood on the site of modern-day St Albans. In her article, Alice examines five surviving Roman stones, highlighting how these artefacts offer valuable insights into the culture, communication networks, and trade practices of Roman Britain. Alice also won the Historical Association's Write Your Own Historical Fiction Competition with a story about Catherine de Medici.

As an aspiring historian, I have always been interested in St Albans' rich history and I am so grateful to the Historical Association for giving me a platform to share my research with a wider audience.

Alice, Lower Sixth Form

Lucas (Upper Sixth Form) recently competed in at the County Swimming Championships for Hatfield and became the individual six-time County Champion for 50m fly, 50m breast, 100m fly, 100m breast, 100m Individual Medley and 100m freestyle. He was also part of three championship winning relay events! Last weekend, Lucas also competed at an international meet in Luxembourg.

Alongside Lucas’ achievements, many of our swimmers also competed in the County Championships with the following qualifying for finals: Eddie, James and Hugo (Third Form), Luke and Kabir (Fifth Form) and Hugo in the (Lower Sixth Form).

Aidan (Fifth Form) represented Great Britain in the Cadet International Fencing Competition taking place in Prague, Czech Republic 8-9 February.

Oliver (Fifth Form) has achieved the ranking of third in the UK for his age group in the New Year Divisional Powerlifting Championship and has qualified for the U18 National Powerlifting Championship in March.

Sayan (Fifth Form) represented England at the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in Delhi last month. Topping the group by beating the Kenyan, Australian, Malaysian and German National teams. They went on to face South Africa in the quarterfinals, losing 38-58.

Ava (Lower Sixth Form) recently competed in the fencing Grand Prix in Tunis and has become the youngest fencer on Team GB! Read more about her experience here.
