Waves, words and whoppers

First Form pupils have been working on their own wave sculptures, inspired by the famous Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849). Hokusai was an influential painter and printmaker during Japan’s Edo period, best known for The Great Wave off Kanagawa. This iconic print became a symbol of both the beauty and power of nature. By studying Hokusai’s distinctive wave designs, pupils explored how to capture similar movement and energy in their own sculptures. It’s been a great opportunity for them to combine learning and creativity.

Second Form students have been looking at the progression of Typography over the decades. For their final outcome they are creating banners of our school motto based on the style of Ben Eine - one of the most successful global street artists and a pioneer in the exploration of graffiti letterforms.

Fourth Form GCSE students have been photographing their own clay burgers for a Claes Oldenburg inspired project. Claes Oldenburg (1929 – 2022) was a Swedish-born American sculptor best known for his public art installations, typically featuring large replicas of everyday objects.
