Second Form pupils recently visited Kew Gardens to deepen their understanding of rainforest ecosystems. The trip provided an immersive experience, introducing students to valuable fieldwork techniques as they explored the vast Royal Botanical Gardens.
The group began with a fascinating guided tour of the Palm House, participated in interactive biodiversity activities with Kew's expert staff, and then explored the Temperate House, The Hive, and the Treetop Walk.
A highlight of the day was a captivating lesson inside Kew's Tropical Palm House, where pupils discovered the unique plant adaptations that allow species to thrive in the challenging conditions of tropical rainforests. They also learned about the vital resources these ecosystems provide.
In addition to exploring the wonders of the rainforest, the boys compared temperate and tropical climates, gaining insight into the differences in weather patterns and how these affect plant and animal life.
This hands-on experience at Kew Gardens helped bring classroom concepts to life, fostering a deeper appreciation for biodiversity and the importance of rainforest conservation.
