Later on, the Upper Sixth Form students delved into an equally intriguing practical on immobilised enzymes. In this session, students worked with lactase, an enzyme that breaks down lactose, and immobilised it in alginate beads. They then used these immobilised enzymes to create lactose-free milk, a crucial application in the food industry. Both practicals were excellent examples of how the Biology department encourages hands-on learning, critical thinking, and the application of scientific principles. Students left the lab not just with valuable experimental skills but also with a deeper understanding of biological processes and their real-life implications.
