St Albans School had a fantastic debut at the prestigious Public Schools Fencing Championships, an event dating back to 1890, in which Winston Churchill himself once competed. Our fencers delivered outstanding performances, earning multiple medals and securing the team trophy for the school with the highest total points in all sabre events from the last eight.
In the Mount-Haes event (for First and Second Form), Charlie placed 19th out of a competitive field of 62 fencers. In the Junior event, Ben finished in 10th place, while Aidan claimed a bronze medal after a hard-fought semi-final, just missing the final due to a controversial 14-14 decision. Meanwhile, George delivered a stellar performance, winning the Junior Men’s Sabre event against 78 competitors. In the Senior event, Matthew finished 46th in the men's category, and Ava triumphed in the Girls’ Senior Sabre event, securing her third consecutive championship title - a remarkable achievement!
The competition was fierce, but our School stood out not only for its strong results but also for the incredible sportsmanship and team spirit on display. A huge thank you to Mr Davies, whose support and dedication made this trip possible.
