ADVENTURES IN THE USA

Our Sixth Form politics students enjoyed an enriching political and cultural excursion to the USA during half term. All three branches of the US government were visited in Washington DC, namely the Supreme Court, Congress and the White House. A highlight was a tour of the House of Representatives.

There were also opportunities to see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, as well as a visit to the home of Thomas Jefferson, the third president and author of the Declaration of Independence. In between, the group witnessed an enormous demonstration about the current political climate on the National Mall.

The most memorable moment of the trip was seeing street lit New York from on top of the Empire State building.

Oscar, Lower Sixth Form

After a stop at Philadelphia to see Independence Hall, view the Liberty Bell and sample a Philly-cheese steak sandwich, the group moved on to New York City for an immersive experience in American culture and history. Highlights included watching the sunset from the Empire State Building, dining in Chinatown, and attending a Broadway show. For many, the most unforgettable moment was standing before the Statue of Liberty for an iconic moment in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

The group also toured the United Nations, including the General Assembly and Security Council chambers. A visit to Ground Zero provided a solemn opportunity to reflect on a moment of national tragedy. Other notable stops included Wall Street and Central Park.

It was a fascinating and diverse trip that was enriching and inspiring for everyone.
