As part of the Drama GCSE, our cohort of 20 students recently completed the Devised component, a challenging and creative module where students develop original pieces of theatre in response to selected stimuli.
This year, students drew inspiration from one of three thought-provoking sources: a haunting photograph by Gregory Crewdson, the timeless concept of The Seven Deadly Sins, and a powerful BBC news article on child labour.
From these stimuli, students crafted compelling theatrical pieces, developing original characters and exploring contemporary themes and social issues. Their performances showcased a range of dramatic techniques, including monologue, physical theatre, and cross-cutting, demonstrating both creativity and technical skill.
In addition to their live performances, students submitted a written portfolio, in which they analysed, evaluated, and reflected on their creative process. This component accounts for 40% of the final GCSE grade and represents a significant milestone in their drama education.
