During Enrichment Week both Third Formers and Lower Sixth Formers enjoyed an insightful trip to Bletchley Park.
A group of Lower Sixth Computer Science pupils visited The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park. During a guided tour, they learned about the pioneering work of wartime codebreakers such as Bill Tutte, Tommy Flowers, and Alan Turing, and the critical role they played in the Allied victory during the Second World War. Pupils also took part in interactive workshops, including a virtual reality activity where they collaborated in pairs to defuse a simulated bomb, developing their problem-solving and communication skills in an engaging, high-pressure scenario.
Later in the week, half of the Third Form visited Bletchley Park, where they enjoyed an expert-led guided tour and took part in engaging workshops. They learned about the vital contribution of the wartime ‘computors’ and codebreakers, whose work at Bletchley Park played a crucial role in shortening the Second World War. The visit offered a fascinating insight into the mathematical challenges of codebreaking and the extraordinary secrecy that surrounded operations at the site.
