SPORTS SUMMER UPDATES

Cross country
In the final week of the summer break, 66 of all students from all year groups took part in three days of pre-season cross country. This was open to all running abilities and students showed great energy and enthusiasm, partaking in a range of activities from hill reps, to 2km time trials, to intervals on the Westminster Lodge Athletics Track.

So far, the St Albans School Junior (First and Second Form) and Intermediate (Third and Fourth Form) teams delivered an impressive performance at the second District Cross Country fixture hosted by Townsend School. A huge well done to all the students who competed, showcasing determination and school spirit. Two races to go and all to play for!

Rugby
In the final week of the summer, the U16 and Senior Rugby squads enjoyed a three-day training camp at Bath University, making use of superb facilities including hydro pools and a dojo. Meanwhile, other age groups undertook two days of pre-season training at Woollams. On 30 August, the U18s hosted our own festival with four short matches, while the U16s travelled to Mill Hill and the U15s to Felsted for training fixtures. The remaining age groups continued at Woollams, ensuring all teams were ready for the term’s opening fixtures. Thank you to the staff involved for their invaluable support and to the grounds staff who helped to prepare four pitches to match quality after an incredibly dry summer.

Swimming pre-season
Over 50 pupils took part in pre-season swimming and team trials. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm in the pool, especially from our new students, which promises an exciting and competitive season ahead.

Golf
The annual Thomson Trophy took place last term, bringing together staff and pupils in friendly competition. The now well-established format of playing the Par 3 course at Redbourn Golf Club once again proved to be a most enjoyable occasion. Our warm congratulations go to Marc, who won this year's title finishing nine over par just ahead of Mr Smith. Sincere thanks to all staff and pupils who took part in what has become a much-anticipated event, celebrating both camaraderie and a shared love of the game.

Netball
In preparation for the upcoming season, a pre-season netball session took place at the end of August at Woollams. This is an excellent opportunity for new entrants to meet existing students, settle any nerves, and demonstrate their sporting talents. The session mostly consisted of new entrants, but also in attendance was our newly appointed captain, Phoebe, and Rose from the Upper Sixth. A productive and fun morning of team-building exercises, fitness, and netball was had in preparation for the season ahead. Our girls first competitive fixture together this season, and they win the U19 Senior Netball B team Tournament.
