At the end of September, our Fifth Form Geography students undertook a fieldwork visit to the London Olympic Park in Stratford, as part of their GCSE studies in Human Geography.
Throughout the day, pupils conducted a series of structured investigations, including traffic and pedestrian counts, land-use mapping, and questionnaire surveys with local residents and visitors. These activities provided them with valuable primary data for analysis and interpretation.
The Olympic Park serves as a key GCSE case study, offering an exemplary context in which to examine urban regeneration. Observing first-hand the transformation of Stratford since the 2012 Olympic Games enabled pupils to deepen their understanding of the processes and impacts of large-scale regeneration projects.
This experience was an important opportunity for pupils to apply theoretical knowledge to a real-world environment, strengthening both their geographical skills and their appreciation of the subject’s relevance beyond the classroom.
