We started the season on 5 October at the prestigious King’s Trophy, held every year on a challenging 7km course around Wimbledon Common where we came an impressive second place competing against some of the best schools in the South of England. Just a few days later, it was time to start our National Cup campaign at Dulwich College in the London preliminary round. The senior team finished second again with all four of our scorers in the top twenty. The intermediate team finished third with Mylo leading the charge in tenth place which meant both teams were through to the regional round. Despite our best efforts and Ben coming tenth in the senior race, it wasn’t our day with both teams coming seventh in the region and we didn’t make it through to the National Final. However, there is great hope for the future with three members of the senior team being in Fifth Form. We travelled to Harrow School where some of the team had great individual performances including Hugo who finished thirteenth running an age group up. Unfortunately due to injuries we couldn’t get the team result we were capable of. This left us with one race left of the term, the Judge Cup, held in Richmond which is a six-stage relay with one member of each year group making up the team. Some good runs led to Ben running an impressive leg to get the team into fourth place on the penultimate leg with me (Zac) bringing the team home in third place and running the fastest overall leg of the day. In the last two weeks the first XV have beaten Merchant Taylors’ and the 1st VII have beaten Haberdashers' Boys' School in the County Cup. Overall, some good performances and a bright future ahead for the team.

The U13 Table Tennis players Daniel, Joseph, Aran and Daniel are County Champions and will now represent the School and Hertfordshire at the Regional Finals in London in January. This will involve all the best table tennis playing Schools as far west as Reading and as far south as Brighton. Well done and good luck for the next round!
The final fixtures of the Rugby season saw the 1st XV beat Merchant Taylors’,
19-5. The U15A game against Merchant Taylors’ doubled as a national cup game with our team, featuring a few Third Form players playing up an age group, winning 34-12 and progressing to the next round – a brilliant achievement!
We ended an outstanding term of Netball with the 1st VII beating Haberdashers’ Girls’ School in the County Cup. After a tense match, the 1st VII were victorious, taking the win 46-40. They now face Herts and Essex in the quarter finals.
In Basketball, the U14 team recently played against the Marlborough Science Academy and won convincingly, 40-19.
In Chess, A and B U19 Chess Teams participated in the English Chess Federation National Schools Chess Competition. This tournament served as Hertfordshire Group A and our A Team were able to make it through to the next round amid stiff opposition. A special mention for Alex and Isa who won all their games!
Congratulations to two Fifth Formers who celebrate their own recent individual sporting success. Lucas who has been selected for this year’s England U16 boys’ hockey squad, and Sam who has been selected for the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club U16 squad for the 2023 season.
