Lower Sixth Former Will shares his experience:
The Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award is a highly prestigious program that offers young people the opportunity to develop skills, undertake new challenges, and make a positive impact on their communities. St Albans School is one of the many organisations running the program. The Award, which was founded in 1956 by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is open to young people between the ages of 14 and 24 and consists of four sections: skill, physical, service, and expedition.
Participants in the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award program have the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, including leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. By completing activities in each of the four sections, participants gain a well-rounded set of skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
As a Lower Sixth Form student at the School, I would recommend the program to those who have an interest in skill development and independence. The School does an excellent job of running the scheme and hence I would suggest others take up the award.
