On 16 January, the Classics Department welcomed a visit from Ben Kane, author of best-selling historical novels set in the ancient Roman Empire. Lower School pupils from First to Third Form enjoyed his talk which he delivered dressed in a Roman costume. It was a wonderful opportunity for the boys to learn more about the Romans and their way of life (and death) with talks about soldiers, gladiators, gods and day-to-day life. The workshop was full of hilarious, gruesome and fascinating anecdotes and of course there was plenty of time to ask questions at the end. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the session and left feeling enriched and more informed about Roman life.
