Third Former Thomas and First Former Freddie joined forces for charity with their younger brother Sebastian and two friends to fundraise for charity. This time last year, they set themselves a fairly formidable challenge - to cycle the distance between the North Pole and the South Pole in a year! It is a whopping 20,014km but they were determined to raise as much money and awareness for the World Land Trust as they possibly could. 365 days later, they have accomplished their goal and raised over £13,000. We chatted with Thomas and Freddie about their fantastic achievement and how important this challenge has been:
This challenge has taught me so much about resilience and not giving up even when it gets tough. It really helped doing it together with my brothers and we encouraged each other to keep going, especially when we felt really tired. Our Mum also really helped to motivate us all! I’m so proud of raising so much money for such an important charity.
One of the most important parts of this challenge for me was to raise awareness for the charity, the World Land Trust. It was so exciting to have messages on social media from Sir Chris Hoy MBE and Chris Packham CBE! It all began because my younger brother saw a David Attenborough documentary about his support of the World Land Trust and it inspired us all to support the charity and go for this challenge together to raise money. It was hard to get up early on cold dark mornings but this has been an experience I’ll never forget.
