The Senior Mentoring Programme runs throughout the School, providing support and guidance to pupils and it is led by students. Looking at my past academic and social experiences, I believe that having someone to talk to who had been through similar experiences as me, would have helped immensely and would have encouraged me to have a greater awareness. This is the main reason that motivated me to become a mentor.
Through a weekly meeting session, we meet with our mentees and talk about their week and if they have come up against any challenges. Alongside this, there is always time for some advising and casual chats to learn more about them. During the sessions, I gained exposure to people from different backgrounds and experiences, learned about different perspectives and practised active listening and communication. Being a mentor has given me interesting experiences and has honed my interpersonal skills, encouraging me to take up the responsibility of the role and support younger students.
