A Level Drama students brought the style of immersive theatre company ‘Punchdrunk’ to Pen Arthur during a weekend residential (10-12 March). Taking inspiration from source material Medea by Euripides, students have spent the last few months developing 30-minute productions which utilise the different spaces at Pen Arthur both interior and exterior, transforming them with a cinematic level of detail.
The first group explored family tensions on the day of a family member's funeral whilst the second group explored the brutal world of sex trafficking. Both pieces were highly successful in delivering that distilled hit of emotion which Punchdrunk aim to do with their work. As audience members, we had a 'fly on the wall' experience where we could witness secret conversations, read personal letters and stumble across fiery arguments.
