We marked the festive season with our annual Christmas Carol Services, held on 10 and 11 December at the beautiful St Albans Cathedral. This cherished tradition brings together the School community in a spirit of reflection, joy and unity.
The service commenced with the time-honoured carol Once in Royal David’s City, followed by a warm welcome from The Very Revd Jo Kelly Moore, Dean of St Albans. Her words set the tone for a moving and memorable service.
Throughout the service, we were treated to a series of readings from the Headmaster, staff, pupils, and Old Albanians, offering readings and poignant reflections on the true meaning of Christmas. Between these thoughtful contributions, the congregation joined in the singing of well-loved carols, including O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem, It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. Each piece echoed through the cathedral’s arches, inviting all present to join in a collective celebration of the season.
The service concluded with a Blessing, and a collection was taken in support of the vital work of Centrepoint and Shelter, two charities dedicated to aiding vulnerable individuals during the Christmas period. This act of giving perfectly captured the spirit of the occasion, reminding us of the importance of compassion and generosity during this special time of year.
It was a fitting end to a busy term, providing a moment of reflection and togetherness for all involved. It was a delightful occasion, bringing the School community together in celebration and charity.
